History: 8 yr old female DSH, Head tilt and ataxia
Gross Path: The tympanic bullae were filled with purulent exudate bilaterally
Morphologic Diagnosis:
Brain: Diffuse meningoencephalitis, suppurative, chronic with perivascular cuffing.
Spinal cord: Multifocal meningitis, suppurative, chronic, with axonal degeneration and macrophages in the ventral and lateral funiculi.
Comment: We cultured Streptococcus equi spp zooepidemicus from the exudate in the tympanic bulla
